BALLPARK NEWS

Talk Centers on Tropicana Field's Catwalks
Eighteen-year-old Tropicana Field might not have the stylish charm of Camden Yards and other stadiums built a few years after it, but it has one quirk no baseball park can match. The catwalks. Or "infamous catwalks," as they are commonly called (when not preceded by an unprintable adjective). The four circular metal structures that ring the 6-acre Teflon-coated fiberglass roof could come into play when the Tampa Bay Rays and Philadelphia Phillies meet in Wednesday night's Game 1 of the World Series.

Yankee Stadium Continues to Take Shape
Once you walk inside the new Yankee Stadium, trust me, you're going to be immediately struck by this dominating thought: This sure looks an awful lot like the old place. Wasn't that the whole point? To take everything that's memorable about Yankee Stadium and re-create it in a new-and-improved stadium with all the bells and whistles of today's luxurious ballparks? Undoubtedly the Yankees, New York City and their hordes of contractors and carpenters are on their way to doing just that, as I evidenced Thursday during a half-hour visit to the new park.
