Chicago, IL

For well over a century the Chicago White Sox have played on the south side of Chicago with the last three decades at Guaranteed Rate Field. Although it opened in 1991 the ballpark is now one of the oldest stadiums in baseball. While it has been renovated multiple times since it opened Guaranteed Rate Field is isolated from mixed use developments that are presently located around most newer ballparks. In January 2024 the Chicago Sun Times reported that the White Sox were evaluating a 60 acre site known as “The 78” along Clark and Roosevelt in downtown Chicago as a possible location for a new ballpark. This site is one of the last undeveloped parcels of land in downtown Chicago. It could be developed into a neighborhood featuring a new ballpark, retail establishments and housing. The White Sox have not publicly commented on any new ballpark developments.
